I bought a tattoo gun and i can't understand how to use it. it doesn't look like it has any kind of motor on it or anything like that and the guy that sold it to me isn't any help. can anyone give me some kind of an idea on how to use this thing? i know that different tattoo guns operate differently but if i could just get some idea then i could probably figure it out from there.

Don't even try. Leave it to the experts. If you don't know how to use the gun you should not try to mess around with tattoo's.

how do i make a home made tattoo gun?

ive seen one before someone made it with a tiny motor how can i?

I have a friend who started out with a small motor he got from a science store, and a bic pen tube connected with electrical tape. I think he even had a little foot peddle that he got from the same store, all for like 20 bucks.

He did use professional needles though.

Warning though: He did a tattoo on me, and it was the most painful thing I've ever experienced because the motor was so much smaller than a standard tattoo gun, and he had to redo it like 3 times.

If you go to a tat expo, you can find guns for under 100$

BEFORE YOU HATE!! i know it is a good idea to get an apprenticeship,i know all about bloodborne pathogens, and sterilization, (i have and have used a autoclave) i have just used homemade equipment, but recently i have purchased a kit from Superior TAttoo Company. And the Major Problem that i am getting is that when i connect the footswitch to the power supply, the clipcord to the power supply and the machine all i get when i push the pedal is one click thats it i know that you have to hold the pedal down for repetition needls strokes, so please help me with this….i would really like to get an apprentice but i can not afford the amount of money that they want. I have done around 25 "homemade tattoos" and thats not workin for me.so i would really appreciate it if i didnt get any smart ass answers all i want to know is how do i get repeated needle strokes without having to push the foot switch everytime i want the needle to go into skin dont worry i have much practice with fakeskinandfruit

This isn't a smart ass answer - it's simply the truth: WE DON'T HELP SCRATCHERS HERE!

We also don't support tattoo supply companies that sell to scratchers - you don't GET TO DO THIS to people to keep the laser removal docs making money. Just because you own an autoclave DOES NOT make you work clean and safe.

All the practice on fake skin and fruit gets you no where if you don't know what you are doing in the first place! It is not about "practice makes perfect" - only PERFECT practice makes perfect.

Give it up until you can get a REAL apprenticeship. Obviously, something is seriously lacking if you cannot work that out.

Edit notes:……and it's NOT a gun, guns kill….it's a tattoo machine.

What is the difference between (8-wrap) and (11-wrap) on a tattoo gun?

And what is the best one to use?

The 8 wrap coil is used mostly when doing an outline with a 1,3,4, and a 5 needle outliner. The same principal applies with a 10 wrap coil shader tattoo machine. If you are going to use a 4 , 5 , or six needle shader then a 10 wrap coil tattoo machine is just fine, but if you are going to use a 11 through 17 needle magnum tattoo needle then I would suggest using a 12 wrap coil tattoo machine.

How Do I Power A Tattoo Gun?

Our power voltage in our house is not high enough so how do I power a tattoo machine? I also need very specific instructions.

First of all, If you are asking this question, you SHOULD NOT be tattooing yet. you need to go do some more research before you EVER power up that tattoo machine. Please do not tattoo anybody including yourself until you arm yourself with more information and get the proper training (i.e. become an apprentice).
However, if you want to power a tattoo machine, you need a power supply unit specifically made for tattoo machines. all they are is a voltage transformer and they cost between $50-$100 or more. There are plenty of tattoo supply websites and catalogs out there where you can order these. They run off of the voltage provided by a standard wall plug (which I believe is 120 volts). Every single house in america has this voltage, so if you have the proper equipment and live in america, then you should have plenty of power to run a tattoo machine. There are also many adjustments on the tattoo machine itself that could be hindering you as well. Go get a book on tattooing to arm yourself with the knowledge needed to properly operate your machine. And:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful!!
good luck!

Is it between the coils and the armature bar or is it between the contact point and the screw?

You should know.

I mean, its not like you just bought the tattoo machine and started working on yourself and friends…

(Get an apprenticeship. A good and skilled teacher can answer all your questions and then some)

im going to my frends house next weekend and she has animal tattoo guns, you know like for the inside of their ear to tag them. is it safe to use them on humans? she said the needles way bigger and hurts way worse. im just wondering, no matter what answers i get on here, im gonna do it anyway
its not a used needle. shes a proffessional animal breeder and stuff, and she has different needles and she buys new ones and stuff, so im not stupid

I´m a tattoo artist…………………..I have a question……..would you go to a doctor who is working with instruments out of the ´50……?? I guess not……………The tattoo guns are our holy tools and it takes a lot of time to adjust them the way we need them…………You CAN`T use an animal-tattoo gun……….
